Cruise into a Long Weekend (or Short Cruise)
Another long weekend is soon upon us, and in our experience, these are great opportunities to stretch, unwind, relax, and just sleep the days away up until that point where you must wake up early for work again.
What if we told you that you can actually go on holiday to take maximum advantage of a long weekend… or even a tad longer?
We’re talking about cruising, baby! And before you stop us and say “WHAT?! Cruising for just three or four days?!?”… just sit down, relax, and hear us out: it might be the slight push you need to take that getaway cruise!
Most Three-day Weekends Are What We Call “Missed Opportunities”
Three-day long weekends are a rare occurrence, that’s why we should take advantage of them by jampacking it with activities – that’s where a CRUISE comes in!
A short cruise offers 48-120 hours (or more) of fun, excitement, adventure, or just plain chilling on a cruise ship – hey, totally up to you! Just imagine all the possibilities!
- You’ll enjoy world class cuisines as you dive in a world of flavour at the buffet, or experience gourmet excellence at any of the onboard specialty restaurants.
- You can lounge around the pool area – sunscreen, a good book, plus a martini? You’re good to go!
- You can also enjoy the onboard waterslides, whirlpools, ice skating rinks, FlowRiders, or scale some walls, state-of-the-art gym, play a round of golf, picnic topside, bingo, trivia, or perhaps just take a swim (or soak in the spa). There’s so much to do!
- You could choose to relax at the onboard spa and sauna where you could be massaged and pampered or head out for dinner to dance the night away…hey, why not both!
…And we’ve only just scratched the surface on what you can do onboard.
Cruiselines such as Carnival, P&O Cruises, Royal Caribbean, Norwegian Cruise Lines, Princess Cruises, and Celebrity Cruises are all in on the trend, giving Aussies the chance to make the most out of any long weekend.
Let’s look at your getaway choices?
For starters, you can head out for a 2-night cruise to “nowhere”, also known as “taste-tester cruises”.
These budget friendly roundtrip cruises allow you to test the waters before you go on longer voyages – perfect for any first-timer. Taste-test cruises are also perfect for celebrations. Many enjoy the luxurious amenities of a cruise ship, not to mention the excellent food, for birthdays, anniversaries, and even simple family gatherings.
Cast off and let the onboard adventures take you away from the ports of Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne, Cairns, Adelaide and Fremantle.
Short one way cruises, are also a great getaway, cruising from one port to another to join the fun of two iconic scenes – Sydney’s magnificent harbor to Brisbane or the trendy spots of Melbourne, cruise Melbourne to Adelaide, or head across the pond to Auckland. Maybe a few extra days in each to round out your holiday exploring.
Roundtrip cruises could take you to the Sunshine Coast for an action-packed weekend getaway, where you explore vast beaches, great food spots at Noosa, and several natural treasures, including the Glass House Mountains for spectacular views and vistas. To Moreton Bay for great swimming holes and beaches where you can go snorkeling, handfeeding wild dolphins, or sand tobogganing (sledging). Sail south to Tasmania for a few days of R&R or head to the Whitsundays, or sail into WA’s wine country.
The world is your oyster if you have longer to travel – you could begin with the South Pacific, New Zealand, Asia and beyond… remember though, even if you have a few days spare, there’s plenty of destinations waiting for you to explore!
